The Bible VS. Joseph Smith
This is a film by Joel P. Kramer & Nathan William Lundquist.
Within the capital of Israel we have Jerusalem, along with many Jews, Muslim and Christians, you also find a strong Moron presence. The movie revolves around Greg Gifford who is a generational Mormon, and a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
The Book of Mormon is placed on its front cover along with, Doctrines and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price. Greg says that the whole of Christian could be likened to an elementary education, with Mormonism as the high school education. He also reveals that Mormons have more education than Christians.
In Joel’s apartment in Jerusalem, they sit to discuss the differences of the King James Bible as opposed to the Mormon Bible, first comparing the prophets of each to one another. Starting with the Book of Deuteronomy 18:21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? This is a VERY important question to ask! This is the difference between a man speaking and GOD speaking.
In Deuteronomy 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him. What is it that would cause a prophet to fail the test of a prophet? Well, whatever the prophet proclaims, it must come true. A brilliant and logical test.
A prophet is someone who claims GOD is speaking through him to the people. How can we know if the message is not coming from GOD? You must test the prophet. Since only GOD knows the future, a prophet can be tested in how he predicts the future. If even one of his predictions does not come true then you know he is not speaking for GOD but for himself.
The introduction page of the Book of Mormon reads, “The book was written by many ancient prophets by the spirit of prophecy and revelation.” Then we should be able to test this book and apply its scripture against Biblical prophecy.
THE BIBLE VS JOSEPH SMITH
The first prophet tested in the Book of Mormon will be Nephi, one of his prophecies is summarized by the Mormon Church in Nephi 13, which predicts the loss of many plain and precious parts of the Bible causing a need for the restoration of the Gospel, and the coming forth of the latter-day scripture. Mormonism says, Christianity is based on the Old and the New Testament alone, and there is a problem with the Bible and the Book of Mormon is the restoration of that corruption and you must read both and take into consideration this corruption. They even go so far as to say that the Book of Mormon comes first and then the King James Bible.
In the Book of Mormon, in the 2nd Book of Nephi 20:6 states; Thou fool, that shalt say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Mormons believe that as a Christian, we are a fool for believing only in the Bible. At the bottom of this page the prophecy was said to have been given in the years between 600-592 B.C. Nephi prophecy also reveals that after the twelve apostles of the Lamb, the formation of the ‘great and abominable’ church…for behold, they have ‘taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are ‘plain and most precious;’ So here we have Nephi tell us in and around 600 B.C. that after Jesus & the Apostles, the abominable church would corrupt the Bible.
Greg states that this is what their whole religion is based on! Nephi goes on to say that “because of these things which are taken away from the gospel of the Lamb, that Satan has great power over them, and that that great ‘pit’ hath been digged for them by that great and abominable church, which was founded by the devil and his children, that he might lead away the souls of men down to hell-” So the Mormons believe that those who follow the Christian Bible will be led to hell.
Dr. Christophe Rico, a linguist who tells us he would not find any scholar who takes seriously these statements. And the first demand he asks is a manuscript to produce these texts, which means they were made in modern times, and not even the church can produce these items. These ‘gold plates’ supposedly given to Joseph Smith and then these works were translated from them and then they were taken back to heaven. Dr. Rico states that anyone can bring revelations of these statements but without ancient texts, it’s just word of mouth, no proof.
Greg reveals to us the Mormons believe there was only one Bible manuscript and as it faded over time, then monks would recopy it, and this repetitive procedure would occur with process of ‘leaving out’ controversial parts. But, Dr. Rico reveals that this is nonsense, and that the church started spreading over the Mediterranean Sea area and so there were thousands of copies of this manuscript made. And over time if one monk was to copy the manuscript differently that this copy would stand out like a sore thumb, so it was impossible to have happened. This process is true both for the Old & New Testaments. Rico says there ate over 6,000 copies of manuscripts that goes back into antiquity, translated from Greek, or Hebrew. But the Book of Mormon have ZERO manuscripts to prove their status, yet it criticizes the Bible. Another point taken is that we are able to test our modern Bibles against the texts of the manuscripts of the Dead Sea Scrolls. So, the Book of Mormon’s prophet Nephi says the corruption would take place after the twelve apostles then we show proof that the Dead Sea Scrolls were in fact found to have been older than this corruption then this prophecy was untrue, and blatantly false.
Dead Sea Scroll expert, Randall Price on location from the position of the Qumran which is where the Dead Sea Scrolls are located. The Dead Sea Scrolls are then compared to the modern Bible to see if any precious parts are missing, and Price confirms from Cave #1, this reveals to us that the origins of these precious scrolls took place well before the birth of Jesus, in fact, they were also not found until 2,000 years later. So if gives us the opportunity to look at this evidence before any controversy took place, and it tells us the texts remain unchanged. Dr. Rico agrees stating that we are talking about a book that is the best and most, well known book from antiquities, and that the differences between what is known from other books from that time period is amazing. Rico reveals that when comparing the differences of any manuscript copies from antiquity, the only differences were minute and do not affect the substance of the texts. One example: the word being changed from ‘but’ to ‘however’. Rico says these remarks are utterly impossible. So, the logical conclusion is that this nullifies any prophecy from Nephi about these scripts as being corrupt! THIS PROPHET FAILS THE TEST!!
Let’s compare the prophets of the Old Testament; David, Isaiah, Micah, Daniel prophesizing the coming of a person known as the Messiah, of someone who would come and eventually rule the world. The writers of the New Testament believe that Jesus Christ was this New Messiah. Christ in the New Testament has the same meaning as the Old Testament, meaning Messiah.
The Biblical prophet tested will be Micah from Chapter 5:2, “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” Amazingly a fragment from this prophecy was found among the Dead Sea Scrolls, and in cave #4 was found over 15,000 fragments that were uncovered. This fragment containing Micah 2, was dated back to 100 B. C. which dates it over a century old at the birth of Jesus on Bethlehem. In Matthew’s Gospel Chapter 2, he states that Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judah, and then he quotes Micah 5:2 to show that Jesus fulfils this prophecy. So this link between the prophecy from Micah to Matthew fulfils these statements and prophecies.
In the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem, it’s built over the traditional place of Jesus’ birth, is the place where pilgrims have been visiting for over 2,000 years. Joel meets Dr. Gabriel Barkay, an archeologist who had been working in Israel for over 40 years. He claims to be very open minded and is firstly an archeologist and is not a Christian. He begins by saying under the Church of Nativity there are caves, and those cavities were in use in the first century and the Christian faith regards this place as very authentic.
Micah is not the only prophet who would predict where the Messiah would be born; the prophet Alma, from the Book of Mormon, prophesized ‘And behold, he is born of Mary, at Jerusalem.’ You can turn to Alma, Chapter 7:10 and it states in the Book of Mormon that Jesus was born in Jerusalem. And the Bible says Bethlehem. Mormon scholars along with Daniel Peterson, argue that because Bethlehem is so close to Jerusalem that this is merely a general statement inferring the same place. Bethlehem is considered a suburb of Jerusalem. Kerry Shirts, another Mormon Scholar states, “how far is Bethlehem from Jerusalem, six miles? Of course it’s going to be in the land of Jerusalem.”
But historical geographers were interviewed without the knowledge of the subject at hand and they exclaimed that this is indeed not the same place. And the interviewer was corrected saying with the historical geographer Todd Bolen saying, “It is not the land of Jerusalem and Bethlehem is a city six miles south of Jerusalem.” When asked if it could be considered the same place, or called the same thing, he revealed, “No, there are cities in between Bethlehem and Jerusalem.” When asked was Jesus born in Jerusalem, he replies no, he was born in Bethlehem.
So Greg replies, to this finding that he would like to say that Alma was a human and found to have been mistaken but in this context you cannot make mistakes. And that he obviously made a mistake. No other conclusion can be made. So is GOD trying to confuse us? No, this is simple enough! Nothing complex about it and the truth is for our protection. ALMA FAILS THE TEST OF PROPHET.
Isaiah will be the next prophet tested. Around 700 B.C., Isaiah made several prophecies about the coming of the Messiah, and the ancestry in which Jesus would come would be from the descendants of King David. Isaiah 16:5, “And in mercy shall the throne be established: and he shall sit upon it in truth in the tabernacle of David, judging, and seeking judgment, and hasting righteousness.” The oldest copy of this prophecy dates back to 125 B.C. and it was preserved in the Great Isaiah Scroll in Cave #1. Joel got to see the scroll on display in person. When asked of Greg if there was anything like this is Mormonism that equals this magnitude, and he answers no, not that he knows of. Isaiah says that the Messiah will come from the house of David, so David was real asks Joel to Dr. Barkay which he replies that not only was his presence known of in Biblical manuscripts but also extra-Biblical texts, one being Tel Dan, two inscriptions were found in 9 B.C. that specifically mentions the House of David. So, we have Isaiah stating in the Old Testament that Jesus would be from the House of David which went from prophecy to truth. Also Matthew reveals this truth several times, as well.
Then we have other ancient texts showing us the same; Eusebius of Caesarea, speaks Jude being brought before the him and they confused this to be true. They family of Jesus admits they were the heirs of King David. So, on the plate above Jesus when being crucified said Jesus from Nazareth King of the Jews, it held a very serious meaning. He was the son of David. So, there is both Biblical and extra-Biblical testaments showing this to be true. In effect this reveals that ISAAIH WAS TESTED A TRUE PROPHET!
King David’s prophecies about the coming Messiah are in the Book of Psalms, in chapter 22:16; “For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.” This was stated in 1000 B.C. and a fragment stating this prophecy from 100 B.C. was found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. The only practices of this sort was performed by Roman crucifixions, by crucifying their prisoners, hands and feet to the crosses. Physical evidence was found by archeologists of a bone box in Oshry with the bones still affixed to the nail which proved the existence of crucifixions.
There is also evidence outside of Biblical texts from Josephus Flavius, A.D. 37-100, wrote as a eye witness, “Roman soldiers who amused themselves by nailing their prisoners in different practices: And so great was their number that space could not be found for the crosses, not crosses for the bodies.” Incredibly he also wrote of Jesus saying, “Now there was about this time, Jesus…Pilate had condemned him to the cross…” To this very date and again upon this year’s, Good Friday, will thousands gather in the streets of Jerusalem to carry a cross in a commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus, and event that took place almost 2000 years ago.
Even the eye witnesses to Jesus’ crucifixion wrote of the nail marks on Jesus’ hands. Also in Acts we have the Scripture stating originally in Greek that He was put to death by nailing Him to a cross. So this fulfills the prophecy from Psalms 22. David’s prophecy that the Messiah would die by having his hands and feet pierced is preserved in the Dead Sea Scrolls that is a 100 years older than when Jesus dies, taking place in 33 A.D.
Next Greg and Joel test the Biblical prophet, Daniel. The Old testament prophets not only give us detailed information about how the Messiah would die but even predicts when. In Daniel 9:25-26, “Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.” Cut off is an Old Testament term meaning killed, the city is Jerusalem and the sanctuary is the Temple. In 538 B.C. Daniel predicted a significant sequence of events which would happen; first being that the Messiah would be killed in the Temple in Jerusalem and we know that from the time when Jesus died until now, the only Temple to be destroyed was in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. So, in order for this prophecy to be fulfilled, the Messiah would have to be killed before the time of 70 A.D., and this was precisely when Jesus was crucified. Archeologist Barkay tell of the events concerning the soldier of Titus, that they purposely destroyed Jerusalem and the focal point bring the Temple Mount. When asked if the writing of Daniel predate these events and he replied, “That’s for sure”. So just as Daniel predicted Jesus was killed just before the destruction of the Temple and Jerusalem. And after the crucifixion Jesus was laid in a tomb. The tomb is over 2,000 years old, and todat it’s protected under the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Dr. Shiman Gibson, a secular archeologist excavated in the Church, and denoted that this is absolutely the place of Jesus’ burial.
Another prophecy of King David, was of Psalms 16:10-11 “For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” The disciples believed that the Messiah was the fulfillment of David’s prophecy because from the grave, Jesus had risen from the dead. On the third day, some women found the cave in which Jesus was placed after his death to be empty. Dr. William Lane Craig states that there are numerous Scripture found to document this. The eye witnesses proclaimed that Jesus has risen and was found to be the Messiah spoken of by the great prophets in the Old Testaments. There were spoken of by these witnesses and for this they would claim to even die for. There is not doubt that the Apostle saw Jesus death as a direct fulfillment of David’s prophecy. Acts 2:27-28 “Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.”
The Apostle Peter quotes David’s prophecy and teaches that David died and his tomb is here to this day. Acts 2:29-32:“Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.” The contrast was very clear, that David’s tomb was there and verifiable and the Messiah’s was empty and His body was not to be found, and that GOD had raised Him up. So, in the sermons of the Acts of the Apostles, we have independent evidence for the empty tomb of Jesus in these sermons.
But the literary evidence even goes beyond that time period of the first century when Josephus Flavius proclaimed “…These that loved him at the first did not forsake him; for he appeared to them alive again on the third day, as the divine prophets had foretold…” So, we have multiple independent witnesses and from these events we can reconstruct the days of our beloved Jesus Christ.
When the Scriptures and hypothesis are weighed together, one can be convinced that evidence proves there is no doubt of this truth and historical events. Even today pilgrims return to the site of Jesus’ grave, just as thy have been doing for almost 2,000 years. Once a year, pilgrims from around the world pack themselves into the Church of the Holy Sepulchre where a fire is then lit and is spread from candle to candle through the Church, then throughout Jerusalem and then to the ends of the earth! And what an amazing site to behold! According to the New Testament Jesus’ resurrection clearly fulfilled David’s prophecy. DAVID TESTED AND PASSED AS A TRUE PROPHET!
In this world of over 6 billion people, we are able to send a letter to just one person, how much information do you have to put onto that letter to do that? Not much, a surprisingly small amount. This small amount of information given can pin-point a person wherever they may be in the world, and in the same way, small details given by the these prophets such a David, Daniel, Isaiah, and Micah can identify one person out all the people ever born. Who else in the scope of history was born in Bethlehem, from the House of David, pierced in the hands and feet, killed before the Temple was destroyed and whose tomb was found empty! This is GOD speaking to us!
After applying the prophecies from these prophets, it becomes clear who speaks the truth and plainly who dies not. The Biblical prophets were surrounded by an abundance of historical evidence while the Mormon have NO evidence at all. In fact there is NO evidence at all until the Book of Mormon was published in 1930. These Book of Mormon prophets prophesized of Joseph Smith, and that the Book of Mormon shall come forth saying; it shall come to pass that the Lord God shall bring forth unto you the words of a book,… the book shall be delivered a man, and he shall deliver the words of the book…” Since there are no ancient texts confirming the prophecies brought by this book, we must then affirm that these texts were published by Joseph Smith and his own imaginations. Anyone has these capabilities. On the front of some of the published texts it even quotes, “New Testament of the Bible by Joseph Smith of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.” Joseph Smith’s translations is even called the “Inspired Version,” which contains two columns, the one of the left being his translation and the right of the King James Version. Throughout the texts of his book, there are multiple pages of additional texts that exceed the actual King James version. With these impressions are given the express statements that these are the “lost and precious texts” of the Bible. This is supposedly it being restored but seriously he is the one who is corrupting the Bible with his addition of his own words. Were not talking about a few letters or words, were talking major differences here, an example here would be in Isaiah 29…with his adding of his name and the coming of the Book of Mormon. By doing this he is including himself as the man who would bring forth this book! When comparing the Book of Mormon and the Great Isaiah Scroll, we see major archeologist and scholars revealing there is no basis of evidence which corroborates this. In fact these pages in the Book of Mormon is ADD-ONS. So this is not a translation, but a re-writing!
Even with the basic Scripture of John 1, Chapter 1 verse 1; we have; “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” and then the Book of Mormon; “In the beginning was the gospel preached through the Son. And the gospel was the word, and the word was with the Son, and the Son was of God.” With the splitting of this text, the Mormon text striped Jesus of His Deity.
The most ancient copy we have of this text in the Papyrus 66 was from around 150 A.D. and it we are very sure of this copy. Since John was a witness of Jesus and His life, then it is more trustworthy of the texts. Joseph rewrote his translation roughly 1800 years later. Truth is and has been corrupted by not by the King James, but by Joseph Smith.
Joseph even changes Roman 4:16, “Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,” but Smith’s version reads; “Ye are justified of faith and works, through grace,” Joseph adds works, of Paul’s Gospel of which he warns, that no man or angel from heaven should preach the gospel that we preach to you, let him be eternally condemned! Greg even admits that by adding this ‘works’ that this gospel which includes ‘works’ represents the gospel of the Mormons.
THIS ONE IS THE KICKER! Another revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, says, “ENABLE MEN TO BECOME GODS” ….this is the NEW AGE Movement!
Interestingly enough when Paul preached that anyone who changes the Gospel it to be eternally condemned! So what we have from this extensive research is that the BOOK OF MORMON is heresy! It’s APOSTACY! And it’s downright NEW AGE!
Greg reveals that he has been taught that GOD was like us at one time and through ‘WORKS” we too can become gods! So this reveals Apostle Paul’s revelation that by grace, God became man to save man from their sins, but in contrast Joseph Smith preached that by their ‘works’ man can become gods!!!
Joseph Smith also became prophetic when telling of futuristic events so even he can be tested! We have the “Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet in 1832, which says a Temple will be built in Missouri. He predicted that the “Temple shall be reared in this generation, for verily this generation shall not pass away until an house shall be built unto the Lord,” Just over a year later, the Mormon’s were forced to leave the area and eventually the entire state of Missouri where the Temple was prophesized to be built.
Thirty-eight years later after the prophecy by Joseph Smith was given, as his generation was coming to a close, the Mormon Apostle, Orson Pratt on May 5th, 1870 said, “The Latter-Day Saints just as much expect to receive a fulfillment of that promise during the generation that was in existence in 1832 as they expect the sun will rise and set tomorrow. Why? Because God cannot lie. He will fulfill all his promises.”
The Temple Lot in Independence Missouri today, sits empty! There was never a Temple! With all the resources of this organization, don’t you think they would put a Temple there, just to fulfill that prophecy!
Jesus also prophesized about the Temple that stood in Jerusalem in His day. Mark 13:1 “And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here! And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” Jesus is predicting the building, and they would be so demolished that not one stone would remain on another. That all the stones from the Temple Mount would be thrown off and not one remain. There is definitely archeological evidence which shows the fulfillment of this prophecy, even unto this very day! You can travel to Jerusalem today and see this for yourself. What Jesus was referring to was that the platform in which the Temple building was located, when the event occurred it would throw all these stones from atop this site downward. And this is exactly what has occurred. It even stuck the road beneath so hard that there are depressions from these gigantic rocks, and enormous stones, landed. As tradition, on the eve and the morning of that day gone by, the people read from Laminations. You even see people sitting and crying, because of this event which took place almost 2,000 years ago but they still feel it unto this very day!
Jesus’ prophecy of this event which took place in our history is an historical fact. Joseph Smith’s prediction of the Mormon Temple did not come to pass and was indeed a false prediction/prophecy. JOSEPH SMITH’S FAILS THE TEST OF A PROPHET.
Deuteronomy 18:20 “But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.”
From a spiritual context this means that there is to be a separation of you to this person!
ONLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD does this come to you!
