LOVE WAXING COLD
Have you felt it? It’s not just me, but others are beginning to notice too. I’ve even received letters on this subject. It even thrives in my own family. I’m not perfect, nor anyone else I know but we can at least try to be graceful and loving.
The unbelieving world is always placing Christians under a magnifying glass.
It’s beginning to become commonplace. Most people don’t even notice, or should I say, they don’t want to notice…the hatred, and coldness. From cutting someone off in traffic to slamming the door in someone’s face…metaphorically or literally.
It didn’t begin in one day, nor last year. It began like the frog in the water metaphor:
“If you throw a frog into a pot of boiling water,
he will jump out.
But if you place him into a pot of cold water and
turn the heat on low,
it will float there quite placidly.
As the water gradually heats up,
the frog will sink into a tranquil stupor,
and before long,
with a smile on its face,
it will unresistingly allow itself
to be boiled to death.”
The world is becoming an emotionally COLD place. But, we are in a pot on top of a stove. Are you smart enough to notice the temperature difference?
Societies gradually migrating toward degeneracy and ultimately to a crescendo of rampant and overwhelming depravity.
GOD gives discernment to those who diligently seek His counsel; most believers know this to be so.
Matthew 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
But what about people who are believer’s treating one another with disrespect?
I’m talking about our attitude towards one another as we discuss biblical doctrine or other Christian issues. Discussion boards and forums are alive with debates and at times heated arguments ensue which are filled with angry words one might expect to hear from worldly people, but not Christians. Christians belittling Christian’s using a tone of superiority that bodes only of pride. And when these arguments get heated what emerges is bitterness and mistrust. Satan must be eating this up.
As faithful believers we should always be prepared to take loving correction whenever it applies and even rebuke if applicable. But outright bitterness as an approach to one another in what started out as a simple discussion brings reproach on the GOD’S Children, as a whole.
THE DOMINO EFFECT
So to what may we contribute much of the bitterness and prideful attitudes being displayed today by believers? The very fact that believers are allowing some of the most depraved visual effects to permeate their minds these days is quite revealing. The more we are confronted with evil passing itself off as entertainment the more our minds will become influenced and guided toward darkness.
Because so few people around you show any SINCERE and RELIABLE obedience to their profession of faith, your own SENSE OF OBLIGATION to Christlike character and virtue is diminished. You EXPECT LESS from yourself AND others; and so, like just one domino in the row, YOU TOO, fail to be consistent with your profession; thereby disappointing someone else, who then follows YOUR example.
SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL
The WORLDLY view of mercy PERMITS a man to CONTINUE INDEFINITELY in his wickedness and dishonesty. The MEN OF THIS WORLD want a god who will forgive them even if they NEVER change their ways. If GOD will not forgive them in spite of their REFUSAL to repent and change, they ACCUSE God of being merciless: and so, IN THE END, GOD would have to forgive The Devil to prove that He is merciful.
THUS, they show “sympathy for The Devil”: for if GOD will forgive THEM without repentance, JUSTICE will demand that He forgive The Devil as well.
2 Cor 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Romans 2:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
LOVE IS A BRIDGE
Love is the bridge that will span any chasm no matter how big. Where is our Christian love? Are we to conform to the world or to Christ?
THE LOVE THAT IS ALWAYS SELFLESS cares not that it may be accused of “having no love”; or that it may be accused of being CRUEL, or MERCILESS, or UNREASONABLE. Any one who loves another with THE LOVE THAT IS ALWAYS SELFLESS will never ask: But how will I look? BECAUSE you CARE SO MUCH for the welfare of that other person, that you are willing to endure slander, rejection, and even their hatred, in order to help them.
THE LOVE THAT IS ALWAYS SELFLESS will be loud, and demanding, and EVEN annoying; and RISK REJECTION by the very ones you love; if by doing so you may save them from GREATER HARM, or awaken them to their NEED FOR God.
So, when things get tough…turn the cheek. Take the punch. Take one for the team! Why? Love.
John 15: 12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
